EL MONTE, CA, November 21, 2011 – OS Business Interiors, a division of Office Solutions, Southern California's largest independent commercial office product, printing, furniture, and technology provider, awarded a new classroom to the students and faculty of Fernando R. Ledesma High School.
The classroom was installed and presented to school officials during a ribbon-cutting ceremony held on Monday, November 21, 2011, at 12347 Ramona Boulevard, El Monte, California, at 11:00 a.m.
The "Ugliest Classroom Contest"
From September 12 through October 17, 2011, OS Business Interiors organized an "Ugliest Classroom Contest" throughout participating school districts in Orange County and Los Angeles.
Through email campaigns, printed flyers, and visits to school districts, schools were invited to participate by submitting photographs of classrooms in need of improvement, along with compelling explanations of why their classrooms deserved to be selected.
The winning classroom was selected through an Office Solutions company-wide vote, with Fernando R. Ledesma High School chosen as the contest winner.
A Classroom Transformation Worth Over $17,000
Fernando R. Ledesma High School, a continuation high school within the El Monte Union High School District, received new classroom furniture featuring the Smartlink line by HON.
The furniture donation included:
- One new teacher's desk
- One new teacher's chair
- 24 student desks
- 24 student chairs
- One modular storage unit

A newly furnished learning environment for the school's students.
Creating a Better Learning Environment
High School Principal Freddy Arteaga nominated the classroom because of its limited resources and inadequate furniture.
Before the renovation, students were using warped and borrowed folding tables as desks, along with graffiti-covered chairs. Classroom instructors also lacked a dedicated desk.
The renovated classroom provided a learning space for students of Fernando R. Ledesma High School while also serving as a meeting location for leadership groups and student clubs on campus.
A Message From the School Principal
On behalf of Fernando R. Ledesma High School and the El Monte Union High School District, I would like to express our deep gratitude to Office Solutions for your generous contribution to the students and staff of our school.
This donation will reach students from the entire El Monte, South El Monte and Rosemead communities.
The furniture will greatly help us improve our commitment to providing our students with safe and inviting classrooms where they are nurtured to achieve their academic goals.
